Vintage Indian 22k Gold Starfruit Earrings
These striking 22k gold fruit-like drops are one type of a large variety of stylized edible forms found in Indian jewelry. Often strung in mass in a kamrakhi mala necklace (a silver or gold necklace consisting of grooved beads), the name is derived from the carambola fruit, or starfruit. These grooved beads, which could be worn in an array of different body adornments, were created from glass, metal or hardstone. This particular pair features playfully exaggerated grooves capped with granulation-adorned spires.
